A shamanic medicine piece
Shamanism is an anthropological term referencing a range of beliefs and practices regarding communication with the spiritual world.[2] A practitioner of shamanism is known as a shaman (pronounced /ˈʃɑːmən/ "SHAH-men"or /ˈʃeɪmən/ "SHAY-men").[3] Shamanism encompasses the belief that shamans are intermediaries or messengers between the human world and the spirit worlds. Shamans are said to treat ailments/illness by mending the soul. Alleviating traumas affecting the soul/spirit restores the physical body of the individual to balance and wholeness. The shaman also enters supernatural realms or dimensions to obtain solutions to problems afflicting the community. Shamans may visit other worlds/dimensions to bring guidance to misguided souls and to ameliorate illnesses of the human soul caused by foreign elements. The shaman operates primarily within the spiritual world, which in turn affects the human world. The restoration of balance results in the elimination of the ailment.[4] This necklace is constructed using an elk's bone, a crystal I collected in my travels through the Himalayas, a small vial containing a tiny bone and a hessonite drop, small hessonite beads on one side and jasper beads in the other side, and it is all tied together with a ribbon of cream-colored fair trade silk from Nepal. The wire I used to connect the pieces is copper.

Alchemical child
I love the new elements I am integrating in my work. The sari silk has amazing colours, and the semiprecious stones are powerful and beautiful. This piece is my newest one, now on Etsy. The hair is made out of silk flowers, and the tassel hanging form the head is made of Opalite drops.

Custom order

I just sold the piece below to someone in NY who asked me to make it for them. It was a fluke I had the pair of arms that she wanted. The image above is the photo she sent me, and the photo below is the piece I made for her, now in the mail to NYC.
Rose child
This is the first piece I make using the fare trade silk from Nepal... I really like the raggedy effect and the overall aesthetic of the piece. The glass drop with a rose sticker was given to me by my friend Marina from fancifuldevices. I am yet to write about my meeting with her in Chicago, and the revealing of her secrets. I will do that soon, I promise.

Vial earrings
I made these vial earrings a while ago. they are made with tiny vintage vials and wax, filled with butterfly wing pieces and rhinestones. I love how they turned out, they shine. I love them so much I bought a small lot of antique vials of all sizes, I will start to integrate these in my work.

Sales
Back from my travels
I am back from my three week vacation to Toronto, NY and Chicago... Sorry I hadn't posted anything in these three weeks, I had limited access to the internet. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting the beautiful and mysterious Marina from fanciful devices, one of my true art heroes and inspirations for art and life. The account of my visit with her will be posted at a later date along with some pictures I took of her wearing some of her awe-inspiring pieces. I also sold a few of my most interesting pieces to delightful people, so I am itching to go back to work on my craft after weeks of museums, folk art and galleries.

The tribal art of Susan Lenart Kazmer

Susan Lenart Kazmer makes contemporary mixed media jewelry with a tribal feel.

I have found myself inspired by the way she mixes elements and saturates her pieces. I would like to be able to achieve such perfect compositions with many elements. I am also drawn to the tribal feel, the sense that the pieces would be worn by a contemporary shaman.

With my new series, Synesthesia, I have been integrating a lot of gemstone elements. Some how, compared to how much Susan Lenart Kazmer is able to incorporate, I feel my creations need more, they need to be less polished, less shiny, more rustic and antiqued. I love old things, antique dolls, rusty things. But so far in my jewelry I haven't been able to incorporate this aesthetic. But with this inspiration, we will see!

My new series will be called Synesthesia
Synesthesia
In certain forms of synesthesia, perceiving letters and numbers (grapheme–color synesthesia) or hearing musical sounds (music–color synesthesia) will lead to the unusual additional experiences of seeing colors. Behavioral and functional neuroimaging experiments have demonstrated that these color experiences lead to changes in behavioral tasks and lead to increased activation of brain regions involved in color perception, thus demonstrating their reality, and similarity to real color percepts, albeit evoked through a non-standard route.

Even more colours
I am still thinking in color gradations and making pieces with lots of gemstones, like this blue and purple extravaganza featuring amethyst, opalite, peacock freshwater pearls, blue freshwater pearls, deep blue Swarovski crystals and two vintage rhinestone pieces. Now in my Etsy shop.
